The Completely Avoidable Death of The Sims

The Sims is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Despite this, The Sims 4, the last entry in the series, was released in 2014. Since then, Electronic Arts has prioritized DLCs and microtransactions over releasing The Sims 5.

Many point to the departure of Will Wright, the game’s creator, as the turning point. After moving away from The Sims to create Spore, EA did whatever they wanted with the IP. They put out The Sims: Castaway, The Sims: Urbz in the City (which featured The Black Eyed Peas as important characters), The Sims: Bustin’ Out, MySims, and tons of other spin-offs, even creating games for the iPod Nano. They pumped out Expansions and Stuff Packs like it was going out of style. And they made a ton of money doing it.

Today, The Sims franchise sits in limbo, with many wondering what happened to their favorite game.
