XL2 Academy and the NYXL management are facing public backlash after dropping three of their Contenders players in favor of hosting tryouts for local New York talent.

The move to drop three of their long-standing players, Cloneman16, Mangachu and Goliath, has left the community divided. There are those who support the idea of having the opportunity for locals to promote into the professional scene, but there is also a strong push back against this idea as teams should look to sign the best talent possible to increase their chances of victory.

There are also several prominent members of the Overwatch community such as Harsha, Brad, Seagull and Avast who have spoken out against the moves on Twitter.
