The Esports Region Abandoned By Riot Games - What Happened To The OPL?

In October 2020, Riot Games announced their plans to pull the plug on the Oceanic Pro League, the region's main professional League of Legends competition. The abrupt nature of the announcement also included the shut down of their Oceania office teams uncertain of their future and the future of the region's competitive scene in disarray.

However, even with the disappearance of the OPL and having notable talents being signed to teams in other international leagues, the region has managed to rebuild itself as third parties step in to fill the void following the departure of Riot Games.
