Blizzard has announced a major set of changes coming to the global Contenders model in 2019 such as North America being split into two regions and restructure of how prizing is distributed.

Concerns for the future of Tier 2 Overwatch and the competitive scene as a whole outside of the Overwatch League has left the community divided between the critics who claim that these updates were done in favor of OWL franchises and those who support the new models being proposed as the first step towards stability.
