A New RTS For A New Generation - Stormgate

Real-time strategy titles like StarCraft were once a staple of the gaming industry and esports, but in recent years, the genre has fallen to the background in place of the likes of LoL and CS2.

However, change may be on the horizon as a new studio founded by ex-Blizzard developers looks to bring the next generation of RTS into the present with the development of a new title.

What is Stormgate?

Stormgate is a new RTS title being developed by Frost Giant Studios, which was founded by former Blizzard developers Tim Morten and Tim Campbell. Within the RTS genre, Morten is best known for his work as the production lead for StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void while Campbell is best known for his time as the campaign lead designer for Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.

The game, which was officially revealed in June 2022, has been in closed beta as of December 2023 and has received a lot of praise from players both casual and competitive. While Frost Giant is ensuring a great competitive experience, the game’s casual community will have a lot to enjoy as well with plans for a fleshed out campaign and co-op mode.

When will Stormgate release?

While the game is currently in closed beta for anyone who backed the game during its Kickstarter campaign or through Indiegogo, the official release date has yet to be announced. For now, Frost Giant plans to officially release the game to Steam Early Access some time in the summer of 2024. Until then, fans can keep an eye out for occasional open betas to take place.
